Apollo Bridge - Bratislava, Slovakia

The Apollo Bridge spans the river Danube close to the historical centre of Bratislava. The bridge has been designed to carry the city traffic, and to serve pedestrians and cyclists.

The area close to the bridge is destined to become a new modern administrative and cultural centre. The bridge therefore required suitably demanding architectural design, and a high standard of operational functions. The structural system that best satisfied all criteria was an arched steel bridge structure with a suspended slender bridge deck. The interesting dynamic shape of the arch is in harmony with Bratislava’s existing bridges, and the bridge has become one of the interesting and dominant features of the capital of Slovakia.
